Industrial Control Systems: What is it? Monitoring with SCADA  

In today’s industrial landscape, Industrial Control Systems (ICS) play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of various industries such as manufacturing, energy, water treatment, and transportation. ICS refers to the network of hardware and software components that are used to monitor and control industrial processes.

What does a SCADA system do?

  2. Master Station: This is the central location where operators can monitor and control the ICS in real-time. The master station receives data from the RTUs and sends commands back out to the field devices as needed.
  3. Communication Network: This is the infrastructure that connects the RTUs, master station, and other components of the SCADA system.

With a SCADA system, operators can:

  • Monitor process variables such as temperature, pressure, and flow rate
  • Receive alarms and notifications when something goes wrong
  • Adjust settings and control valves to optimize performance
  • Analyze data to identify trends and make predictive maintenance decisions
